  • Notes
    • - Jacques Archambault and Renee Ouvrard had two daughters named Marie Archambault. Michael Lauzon is correct as to birth date, wife and children. Giles Lauzon was born in France in 1631 of Pierre Lauzon and Anne Boivin. He married Marie Archambault, having 13 children, and died at Montreal Sept. 21, 1687. There is a plaque to that effect. He married at Montreal Nov. 27, 1656, Marie Archambault, daughter of Jacques Archambault and Francoise Toureau.
Tanquay has Urbain Tessier, son of Unknown and Jeanne Meine, b. 1624, d. March 21, 1689 at Montreal, married Marie Archambault, daughter of Jacques, and they had children from 1651 to at least 1672 when Jean Baptiste was born. Another refence has family of Jacques Archambault, (of Antoine and Renee Ouvrard) and Francoise Toureau (of Francois and Marthe Lenoir) married Jan. 24, 1629 in France, and having children Denis b. 1561, France; Anne, b. 1654 France and married Jean Gervais; Jacquette, b. Sept. 28, 1648, Quebec, and marrying Paul Chalifour; Marie, b. Sept. 28, 1648 (twins) in Quebec, and marrying Urbain Tessier Lavigne. She died Aug. 16, 1719 at Pointe aux Trembles. They also had Laurent, b. Jan. 7, 1660, Montreal, marrying Catherine Marchand; and Marie, b. Nov. 27, 1656, Montreal, died Aug. 8, 1685, marrying Giles Lauzon.

In 1647, they rented a farm in Quebec. Between 1651 and 1653 they sem to have alternated between Montreal and Quebes. The family was in Montreal during the terrible summer of 1651. Jacques barely escaped the massacre. Their son Denis was killed that summer by the cannon which he was getting ready for the third blow against the Iriquois.
With his son-in-law Urban Tessier, Jacques Archambault was chosen among those to defend the stronghold known as l'Enfant Jesus in Montreal. This small fort was situated at the extremity of Tessier's grant. Its defenders, who were also its propietors, were responsible for its being guarded 24 hours a day.
In 1678, when Jacques was 74 years old, his three sons-in-law and his son Laurant granted a life pension to him a septuagenarian and quite unable to workand to earn his living and clothing, for the natural friendship they bear him, as they always have. He died 10 years later.
