- - Watertown Reunion of Jan. 29, 1890: Edward Sloman, a life long resident of Sackets Harbor, died at the residence of Mr. L. W. Day, on Thursday, Jan. 16th, 1890. The funeral services were held from Mr. Day's residence on Monday aftornoon. The Rev. Mr. Winslow of Watertown, officiating, assisted by the Rev. L. R. Webber, of this place. Mr. Sloman was one of Sackots Harbor's old land marks. It would be hard to find a
man, woman or child for miles around who did not know him. Mr. Sloman's parents came from England in 1805. The ship that they sailed in was shipwrecked and they were among the saved. They at last settled at Sackets Harbor on Main Street, in the house known as the Walling house. Mr. Sloman was born 84 years ago. His mother dletl at the age of 85, in 1873. Of Mr. Sloman's life we can say he was a man of unimpeachable integrity, and had the respect and esteem of all who knew him. Nearly two years ago after walking a long distance, he was stricken down with paralysis, and has been confined to the house since. He never married. Mr. Sloman leaves besides his host of friends and acquaintances a sister, Mrs. Walling, who with constant and unremitting care has watched beside the bedside of her brother for the past two years, although she being in poor health.
