- - 1905 New York State census, Franklin County, Malone, New York, First Election District, Branch of Constable Roan: Nelson Recore, age 62, is living with his wife Susan, age 59. Both were born in Canada and are now citizens. Living beside them are Nelson Jr. and his family, and William and his family.
- Hemmingford, Quebec: Feb. 1, 1869, marry Narcisse Ricard, major son of Maxime Ricard and Salomie Gush, and Suzanne Dumas, minor daughter of Joseph Dumas and Rosalie Faubert of Burke, NY. (U.S.)
- Feb. 8, 1928: Another of the few Civil War veterans residing in Malone has passed away. Nelson Recore. 87, died at midnight Saturday night (Feb. 5, 1928) at his home, Front street after a prolonged illness. Mr. Recore was born in Malone and had always resided here. He was a soldier in the Union army during strike between the North and the South and served his colors with distinction. For a number of years he was a member of Brennan Poet here. He is survived by his wife, four sons, Nelson and Mose, of Malone; Joseph of Syracuse and Peter of Southbridge, Mass; one daughter, Mrs. Philena Barton of Malone, three brothers, Eli of Huntington; Noah, of Montreal; and Frank of Malone, and one sister, Mary Dumas, of Burke. Funeral services were held this morning at Notre Dame Church.
- According to Bruce Recore, Nelson Joseph Recore enlisted as a private in Company F, 97th Regiment and the 83rd Regiment of the New York Infantry from July 27, 1863 to July 23, 1864. He was a volunteer substitute for William W. Dewell of the Town of Root, City of Schenectady, Montogomery County. While enlisted, he was wounded in action at the Battle of the Wilderness, where he was shot in the right thigh on May 8, 1864. After being wounded, he was taken to the 4th Dividion A. C. Field Hospital in Spottslvanya, Va. On May 12, 1864 he was transferred to the Mount Pleasant Hosptial in Washington, D. C. He was transferred once again to Lovell General Hosptial in Portmouth Grove, RI on June 5, 1864. When Nelson enlisted, he was 21 years old of age, stood 5 feet 4 inches tall, possessed blue eyes and light brown hair. His occupation was that of a canal boatman. He was married to Susan Dumas. He died on Feb 8, 1928 at 35 Front Street, Malone NY and is buried in the Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone. He was also a member of the Brennan Post.
