    • - Mary C. Bernier Ashley-Sansoucy, 90, of Morris Street, Ogdensburg, NY, died Nov. 28, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, NY on Friday, July 12, 2019, at 10 AM, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery next to her husband Cecil and son Stephen. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. Ashley-Sansoucy is survived by her three children, Deborah Dirck and her husband, Roger, of Dover, NH, Mark Ashley, Sc.D and his wife, Susan, of Bakersfield, CA, Andrew Ashley of Ogdensburg, NY and Holly Ashley of Ogdensburg, NY; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Jaime Dirck, Matthew, Nicholas, and Benjamin Ashley, Kaleb and Isabelle Ashley, and Jesse Ashley; nine great-grandchildren, Paige, Taylor, Finn, Cole, Mila, Jolie, Landon, Samantha, and Caitlin Ashley; her brother James Bernier, two sisters, Theresa Patella and Elizabeth Connors and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Cecil Ashley, her second husband, Eugene Sansoucy, her son, Stephen Ashley, who passed away in 1983 and her brother Joseph Bernier. Mary was born on December 28, 1927, in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of Alvin and Marguerite (Sullivan) Bernier. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1945. She married Cecil (Teedy) E. Ashley in 1948 in St. Mary’s Cathedral and was married until he predeceased her in 1994. As a testament to their deep and abiding love for each other, it is noteworthy that their relationship both survived and only deepened after the injury and subsequent death of their first born son, Steve. She loved spending time with her parents while they were alive and she and Teedy had many a laugh with them around the kitchen table, at camp and in road rallies. She worked with her father at Al’s Liquor Store in downtown Ogdensburg, filling in when he needed help or during the rich Holiday seasons of the time. She proudly served the community alongside her husband at the Fisher’s Men’s Store in downtown Ogdensburg. She cared for her aging mother after her father’s death and began the care tradition that Andy would later follow with her. She deeply appreciated his loving care and the company of his children in her last years and felt they enriched her life tremendously. She later married Eugene (Suey) Sansoucy in 1996 at St. Mary’s Cathedral until he predeceased her in 2004. They enjoyed their adventures in Florida, the hilarious fun brought by Suey’s daughters and their families, and time on the river as well. She enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing with her husband, Cecil, bowling, walks around Ogdensburg, and especially spending time on the St. Lawrence River at camp. She led a simple life, most enjoying time with her family and friends. She enjoyed a good laugh, golf, a shared meal and more than the occasional cocktail with their many close friends over the years. Just a few of her “besties” included Aunt Jeannie Ashley, Glady Cobb, Betty Smith, Marie McCall, Helen Hyovalti, Eleanor Seguin, Pauline Sholette and Kay Hannan.
