Notes - - Samuel served in World War I with Co. D of the 107th infantry, AEF (American Expeditionary Force) in France and was considered something of a hero, though we don't know why. He worked for the New York Central Railroad. Most
of his life he lived in Syracuse at 119 Fountain St., where he moved in 1918 after finishing his military service. He was forced to retire from the railroad due to ill health around 1932.
- Ogdensburg Advance, May 4, 1935: Samuel Boyer, a former member of old Co. D of this city and the 107th Infantry, AEF, died in St. Joseph's Hospital at Syracuse May 1. His many friends in Ogdensburg will regret the news of his passing. He is a nephew of Mrs. Kate Walling, 923 Congress Street, this city. Full military honors were paid Mr. Boyer at his funeral this morning at Syracuse. Rites were conducted from his home at 119 Fountain Street, at 9 o'clock, and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:30 where a requiem mass was celebrated. Mr. Boyer, who was a former employe
of the New York Central Railroad, had been in failing health, the past three years, and had been confined to St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse for the past six weeks. He was born in Ogdensburg 39 years ago, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Boyer, and resided in Syracuse 17 years. Mr. Boyer served with the 27th division, AEF, in France during the war. Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Elizabeth V. Boyer; two sons, Robert and Samuel Boyer; two daughters,
Miss. Marian Boyer and Miss Viola Boyer; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Knight, Mrs. Mary Hurry and Mrs. Henry Warren; several nieces and nephews and his aunt of this city.
