- - Ogdensburg Methdist Church has record showing baptism of David Walter Wicks in August, 1868, showing he was born Aug. 7, 1867, the son of David and Esther Wicks.
- 1880 U.S. census, Ogdensburg, 1st ward, Walter is 12 years old and living with his mother, Esther Holmes. Also in the house are his borther John, his sister Alice, and his brother-in-law William Walling with William's son William.
- Ogd. Advance of 1899 reports the arraignment of Charles Race: "for prize fighting. It appears that he and Walter Wicks engaged in more or less of a scientific bout at Popes Mills March 1. The fight had been advertised and was well attended, Ogdensburg sending a large delegation of sports. It was claimed that Race fouled by striking below the belt. Wicks got the decision and gate money and then left for parts unknown. Bail was fised at $500."
- Sept, 1889: Last evening about half past nine as Walter Wicks, fred Wicks and others were passing up South Water St., opposite the hay scales near the Moore building, they were accosted by Walter Brown, who attacked Fred Wicks. They were parted. Brown then went into the basement of the building and returning with a knife, attacked Wicks again, stabbing him in the left arm near the shoulder. They were parted again and Wicks' friends took him to Dr. C. C. Benton who dressed the wound. Officer Tack arrested Brown and he was brought before the Recorder this morning. The case is being tried as we go to press.
- Feb., 1891: There have been many complaints made lately of parties who have cut down trees in the woods along the Oswegatchie near this city. An investigation led to the arrest of Walter Wicks, Nelson Busha and Henry Busha. They were charged with stealing wood from the Denny tract. They were fined a small sum.
- Oct, 1895: Walter Wicks, the leader of the Pious Hollow chivarari gang, who has been eluding the police since the disturbances in that part of the city last August, walked into Justice Smith Dawley's court this morning and gave himself up. He was fined $10 which was paid.
- Ogd. Journal, Oct., 1901: Walter Wicks, one of the principals in the Macomb prize fight of a few years ago, pleaded guilty to the offence. He has been minus a number of years. It was urged in mitigation that he losts the fight and he got off with a sentence of 10 days in the county jail. Ogd. Advance of 1901 reports county court records of Oct. 22: "Walter Wicks, indicted for prize fighting in Macomb, pleaded guilty and was given ten days in jail."

- Ogd. Advance, 1906: The wife and four little children of Walter Wicks who were found suffering from want and privation in a little old hut near the dump, have been sent to the United Helpers Home. The husband, a strong healthy fellow, is said to have fled when the persons who discovered the distress of his family were seen going to the house.
