  1. 8.  Mathieu Brunet dit Letang was born in 1646 in Tourouvre, France (son of Jacques Brunet and Jacqueline Recheine); died on 17 Dec 1708 in Montreal, Quebec.

    Notes:

    - Mathieu Brunet dit Lestang was born and baptized on December 20, 1637 in the parish of Saint-Jean in Rai on the borders of the country of Ouche and Perche. This information could not be verified because the online parish registers of Rai do not begin until 1682. Nevertheless, this date is consistent with the age declared on his death certificate in 1708 "about seventy years old ".

In addition, his marriage certificate with Marie Blanchard specifies the names of his parents and their origin: "Matthieu Brunet, son of Jacques, and Jacqueline Recheine, his father and mother of the parish of Tourouvre , Evesche de Chartres".

Mathieu commits to La Rochelle on March 19, 1657 for Canada (contract Moreau, notary in La Rochelle), for a period of three years, with Antoine Grignon, Pierre Gaigneur and Jacques Masse, merchants of La Rochelle from where he probably embarks on the ship Les Armes d'Amsterdam to join New France. He married on November 17, 1667 in Quebec with Norman Marie Blanchard, daughter of the king , from the parish of Saint-Nicaise de Rouen, arrived in New France the same year "bringing goods estimated at 50 pounds". Marie Blanchard is the daughter of Jean Blanchard and Martine Le Bas.

On February 8, 1671, Nicolas Marsolet granted him a concession of six arpents frontage by 40 arpents of depth, on the St. Lawrence River, in the back-fief known as the Marsolet meadows at Champlain. The marriage contract only passed on April 14, 1679, in Champlain, when they had been married for more than eleven years. At the census of the year 1681, Mathieu and Marie still live in Champlain. The couple will have 10 children, all born in Champlain.

On November 4, 1687, Mathieu Brunet rented the farm of Jean Vincent Philippe de Hautmesnil, in Saint-Pierre River, then progressively, the Brunets approached Montreal, Lachine and Verdun. On March 4, 1692, the Brunet settled on a site of the Place d'Armes.

On December 1, 1708, Mathieu Brunet, a resident of the parish of Lachine, was hospitalized at the Hotel-Dieu in Montreal and died there "about seventy years old". He is buried on December 17, 1708 in the same city.

His widow Marie Blanchard remarries in Lachine with Yves-Luc Lucas said Saint-Venan (master cooper) with whom she will have no children. She died on July 29, 1722 in Lachine.
