- - 1896: Marriage certificate: Elizabeth LaFlaire, daughter of John and Caroline Busha LaFlaire, and George Como, son of Nelson and Marinda Turl Como, were married on 25 Nov 1896 at the Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg, N.Y. Neither of Elizabeth's parents are alive at the time of the marriage. This is the first marriage for both.
- 1900 U.S. census, Ogdensburg: Mary (Elizabeth,) wife of George Como, is 16 years old and they have no children. She was born January 13, 1884. They are living on Pickering St. She was born in New York state as was her father. Her mother was born in Canada.
- 1910 U.S. census, Ogdensburg 2nd ward: Mary, wife of George Como is 26 years old and livig with her husband George and son Wilbert (5). She was born in New York State as were both of her parents. They have been married for 12 years and she has had three children, only one of whom is still alive.
- Immediately after the 1910 census, Mary and George seperate. In September of 1912, the Ogdensburg Journal reported that he was convicted of assaulting his wife. He got 30 days, suspended, that he keep away from his wife. They have been living apart the past two years.
- At least by 1913, Mary is apparently residing with Lester (Michael) Whitney at Carthage since she has children by him in 1914 and 1915. But they are not married.
- Dec. 11, 1916: Elizabeth Como, daughter of John LaFlair and Caroline Bushey, married Michael Whitney, son of Volney Whitney and Mary Bresette, at Carthage, Jefferson, NY. Both are from Carthage.
- 1920 U.S. census: Lester and Mary are residing in the Village of Harrisville in Lewis County, NY. Wilbert Como is residing with them but is listed as the son of Lester and shown as Wilbur C. Whitney, age 14. Lester, 45, was born NY and is a farm laborer. Mary, 35, was b. NY as were both parents; Wilbur C. Whitney, 14, b. NY; Bertrand Whitney, 6, born 1914 and Mildred, 5, born 1915, all b. NY.
- 1930 U.S. census: Mary is still at Harrisville, only Lester is listed as William Whitney, 65; and Mary Whitney, 46, with son Bertrand, 17; and daughater Mildred, 16.
- 1940 census: Mary is now married to Albert D. Hinman, 58, and they reside at Cortland, NY with Mary, 56 (census indicates they also lived there in 1935.)
- Dorothy Cayen remembers her name as Martha. She says that Martha was a member of the St. Martha's Guild and that her name is on some plaque that hangs in the Moose Hall in Ogdensburg. Have also seen her name given as Elizabeth and as Anna, and in city directories as Mary.
- Syracuse Herald Journal, March 9, 1963: Central Square: Mrs. Mary E. Hinman, 79, widow of Albert Hinman, died Thursday after a long illness. She was a native of Gouverneur. Surviving are two sons, Wilber Como of West Monroe and J. Burton Whitney; a daughter, Mrs. John Whitney of Central Square. Services will be Monday at the Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Wilhams of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
