In 2008, I wrote Michael as follows:
Hi Michael:
I read with great interest your reply in 2008 to Ramona at the Polly Family Gen. Forum.
You have William Polley's second wife Abigail Cushman, as the daughter of William Cushman and Sarah Holoway. I'm a direct descendant of their son William Dennis Polley.
I have done no original research on William's ancestors and have relied entirely on the Internet, where I seem to find two possibilities for Abigail, that either she is the daughter of William and Sarah, or, that she is the daughter of Solomon Cushman and Abigail Holmes Bourne. I wonder if you can elaborate on why you believe the parents are William and Sarah.
According to what I've found, William Polley married Abigail Cushman Jan. 17, 1771 at Hebron. The Connecticut Town Marriage Records (Barbour Collection) state: CUSHMAN, Abigail, m. William POLLEY, b. of Hebron, Jan. 17, 1771. I take it "b" means "both" of Hebron. But it appears that Abigail, daughter of William and Sarah, was born at Plympton, not Hebron.
The case for Abigail being the daughter of Solomon and Abigail Holmes Bourne is tenuous. Solomon is the son of Benjamin Cushman (b. March 1, 1690, Plymouth, Mass) and Sarah Eaton (b. Oct. 20, 1695.) Abigail Holmes is the daughter of John Holmes (b. May 28, 1678, Duxbury, Mass) and Susanna Randall (b. Nov. 15, 1687, Scituate, Mass.)
After the marriage of Solomon Cushman and Abigail Holmes, they resided at Grandy or Simsbury, Conn., thus placing them in the state, and reportedly had three children. Two of them are Jerusha, b. 1756, and Eleazur, b. 1758. From what I can find, Eleazur was born at Hebron, Conn. So it's likely the third child was as well, and that she might be Abigail. I can find no further information for this supposition.
So, I'm hoping you might be able to clear up this relationship.
Sincerely,
..................
He replied:
The information I have was submitted to me back in 1993 for a periodical I was publishing at that time by a gentleman who is no longer living. It is not my research, and I have not pursued it as it is not my direct line of ancestry. Unfortunately, I can shed no light on your question.
The sources cited for the research I have appear to be on your Como website correctly and the text appears to be a verbatim representation of the research from 1993.
The actual sources I have listed are:
Clark, Rev. Azariah, Records of the Congregational Church, Canaan, New York
Tolland County Vital Records, Barbour Collection vol 2
Bostwick, Rev. Gideon, Records of the 1st Congregational Church, Gt Barrington, Massachusetts
Lee, Massachusetts, Vital Records 1771-1801 p.180
I wish you luck with your research, and if I come across anything more I will post it for you.
...
And I replied back:
Thank you Michael. This may remain a mystery, though interestingly, both Abigails are descended from Mayflower passengers. I'd just like to know which one was my grandpops.
Thanks again..
Ted

Genealogy of New England.com has: Abigail Cushman, b. abt. 1754, Hebron CT of Solomon and Abigail Holmes, mar. Jan. 17, 1771, Hebron, William Polley, b. abt. 1736, New London, CT of Daniel Polley and Jerusha Houghton. So this record supports that Abigail is the daugh. of Solomon, but has a different William Polley. The children are the same. It shows William as the son of Daniel Polley, when in fact William is the son of Daniel's brother, Thomas Polley.
