Mr. Winfred E. "Winnie" Collins, 83, of Honey Drive, and formerly of Lyon Mountain, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Ellenburgh, February 21, 1916, the son of the late Archibald and Dora (Clark) Collins.
He retired from Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain in 1968 after 40 years of service and from Plattsburgh State University College in 1976.
Winfred had been president of the Miners Union and was a member of Civil Service Employees Association. An avid outdoorsman, Winfred taught hunter-safety instruction.
He was a member and past president of the Lyon Mountain Rod and Gun Club and was a member of the Panther Mountain Hunting Club. He was a member of St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain.
Winfred is survived by his wife, Belve "Belle" (Sorrell) Collins whom he married December 18, 1937, in Champlain, NY, of Plattsburgh, a son, Nathan Collins of Plattsburgh; five daughters and five sons-in-law, Rebecca and Kurmit Bailey of Cullman, AL; Loretta and Robert Breyette of West Chazy, Linda and John Held of Pahrump, Nev.; Mary Ellen and Gary LaMora of Lyon Mt., Ann Marie and Carlton Rounds of Lyon Mountain, a sister, Lillian Atkins of Georgia, 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by many brothers, sisters, and a granddaughter, Debbie Swearingen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain.
