Gouverneur - Edward Recore, 26, of 27 Dexter St. died instantly at 2:15 Tuesday morning of a self-inflicted gun shot wound through his stomach and chest. His wife Lillian and a friend, Claire Reynolds, 24, of Belleville St., witnessed the shooting in the living room of the Recore home.

Local police and members of the BCI said that the bullet from a .30-.30 rifle coursed through Recore's stomach upwards into his chest and stomach and through his back, finally lodging in the wall.

Reynolds told investigating officers that Recore had been despondent after having been laid off at the W.H. Loomis Talc Company and that he was worried about supporting his family which included his wife and three small children. He added that Recore had been injured while in the company's employ and had been trying to get compensation.

Mrs. Recore was in a state of shock after the incident and fainted several times. She was at the home of a neighbor, Mrs. William H. Porter who hurried to the Recore home moments after hearing the shot and Mrs. Recore's screams.

In his report to officers, Reynolds recounted that he and Recore had visited local taverns during the evening and then, after stopping at the Reynold's residence went to Recore's home.

There Recore awakened his wife and the three sat in the kitchen visiting. In a short time, the account continued, Recore arose and went into the other room, where the rifle hung on the wall. Taking it down, he pointed it at his stomach and pulled the trigger before either Reynolds or Mrs. Recore, who had followed him could interfere.

Reynolds asserted that the rifle must have had been loaded because Recore would not have had time to insert the cartridge. Police said that two cartridges were missing from the clip and were found one exploded in the rifle.

The witnesses said that Recore apparently died instantly, reeling into a chair after firing the shot. Mrs. Recore screamed and fainted and was helped by Reynolds to the back porch where Mrs. Porter came to her assistance.

He was born in Malone Feb 2, 1925 a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Recore, and married the former Miss Lillian Collins of Malone, in a ceremony performed March 8, 1947, in the the Methodist Church of that village by the Rev. Harry C. Campbell, pastor.

Surviving besides Mrs. Recore are three children, Herbert James 3, Winfred 1, and Dora Marie age six weeks.
